Annual July 5th Birch Bay Beach Cleanup

  • Share:
Name: Annual July 5th Birch Bay Beach Cleanup
Date: July 5, 2024
Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM PDT
Event Description:

Each year our volunteers help clean up an enormous amount of garbage following the July 4th Celebrations in Birch Bay. In 2023 we cleaned up 5.57 tons (11,1140 pounds) of left behind trash and leftover fireworks.
This effort wouldn't be possible without the help of hundreds of volunteers who gather annually on the morning of July 5th to get the mess picked up!
Location:
Anywhere along Birch Bay Drive. From Birch Bay Village to Birch Bay State Park. The majority of the mess is in the central resort commercial area near the resorts and restaurant businesses in Central Birch Bay.

Community partners, Whatcom Conservation District & BBWARM will be near the Birch Bay Beach Park located at 7930 Birch Bay Drive and will have supplies and snacks for volunteers. If you plan to use grabbers (highly recommended!) stop by and sign up as a volunteer at their booth.

Things to Know

There are inherent risks associated with this type of work. Below are a few helpful tips to keep in mind to keep you safe as you prepare to help clean up Birch Bay.
  • Bag garbage and place as near to the road and garbage cans as possible. stacking it on the Berm pathway will make it difficult for crews to collect.
  • Be cautious of areas where fire pits or other items may still be burning and/or hot.
  • Dress appropriately for the weather and terrain, be aware of your surroundings, and exercise good judgement to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • Take care when walking on uneven, steep and slippery surfaces.
  • It is recommended that you use gloves and/or grabbers to collect trash. Take care when handling anything potentially dangerous and/or sharp.
