Job Description

Position Summary: Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District is currently seeking an employee for an Activity Coordinator/Youth Specialist, which is a management position. They will lead, plan, organize, coordinate, administer, and promote athletic, fitness, and recreation programs for the community’s youth. This includes after school programs, summer programs, events, and camps. Manage a team of employees who work directly with the youth program. The Youth Specialist will grow and expand youth recreation through the creation and implementation of new programing.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, supervise, and promote current and future youth recreational programs and activities.
  • Manage program area instructors, counselors, and program volunteers.
  • Create and manage program budgets.
  • Oversee After School kids’ programs that require supervision of children ages 5-18 years old.
  • Plan and create youth field trips and recreational programming.
  • Ensure and all safety protocols in any programming event or activity are followed.
  • Work with all staff at community events such as Splash Days, Pirate Daze, and Holiday Lights Dash.
  • Create and implement new community events geared towards youth.
  • Grow youth recreation withing the boundaries of the District.
  • Ensure and follow all safety protocols in any programming event or activity.
  • Clean and maintain recreational equipment and light janitorial work.
  • Conducts outreach to recruit youth for BBBPRD2’s youth and adult programs.
  • Collect admission fees for recreational activities, facility, or equipment rentals.
  • Work weekends, evenings, and at local events.
  • Tracks and documents program sessions with sign in sheets, detailed notes, photos, & any other means deemed appropriate.
  • Maintains a positive work environment and sets an example of conduct and professionalism
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Candidate should possess the following: 

  • Polite, respectful, and professional.
  • Management experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of financial budgets and Excel tracking a must.
  • Experience in Microsoft Suites, Excel, To Lists, Planner, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Community oriented, fair, honest, and have good reasoning skills.
  • Team player who can also work independently and is willing to learn new skills.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Able to direct, lead, and conduct group activities with confidence.
  • Ability to make a detailed program outline for events and activities, including all materials needed, and safety protocols met.
  • Experience in recreation fields or event planning is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and a good driving record.
  • Must pass background checks.
  • Red Cross First Aid/CPR certificate or able to obtain and maintain within 3 months of hire.
  • Must operate a computer with standard office software such as google teams, excel, and outlook
  • Experience in social media is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
